I would soon start a website www.ss7guru.com and a google group dialogicss7. Just to share my objective for the same. I want to help new professionals in SS7 domains by sharing as much information about my experiences and helpful resources/links.

I must share that you would be disappointed to not get much about Hidden Telecom worls & specifications on Google. Searches would bring you to Product pages of SS7 Products family companies. You should know exact sites/resources at which you can find concise information which you are looking forward to. Following are the reasons why google fails to provide desired results on specialized technology :

1. Google don't index websites which are behind username/password authorization. You can find more information about SS7 & Telecom in Protected Discussion Groups/Forums/Whitepapers/File Sharing sites. Although membership to most of these sites is free, but google can't index these as these are dynamic pages behind authorization walls.

2. Off late, SS7 companies have put good efforts on SEO techniques and Search Engine Maketing. They take away almost first two pages of google search for various SS7 terms. So you don't ever get chance to reach actual knowlede share portals but SS7 products sales portal. I hope this page/blog also don't get lost in the same :-)

Following are further resources at which you can find SS7 Products, Case studies & Knowledge Share docs :

1. www.freepatentsonline.com
Access to Patents has been given to public just few months ago. It is the most relevant & techical resources to clear your understanding on various GSM/SS7 products. You would find details (along with call flows) about every Roaming/IN/SS7 based product here. It is because most of these SS7 products have some patent associated with it(Either Filled by or Allocated to any Company/Individual). Registeration to this site is free and you can see figures/diagrams of any patent only after login.

2. www.esnips.com
Many Volunters have uploaded Filtered SS7 docs on esnips. When i say "Filtered", it means most of these have been uploaded for public by Domain Professions(Perhaps with the same objective which i have). So these can be assumed to be expert information available for SS7. Following are few links from esnips which i would recommend for SS7 documentations(even free SS7 ebooks would be available):

http://www.esnips.com/web/muhammadrustam-Telecommunications
http://www.esnips.com/web/SS7Stuff
http://www.esnips.com/web/imalayas-references
http://www.esnips.com/web/WirelessTechnologies
http://www.esnips.com/web/hassanaadil-GSM

I would also soon starting my own folder here for knowledge share at following URL:

http://www.esnips.com/web/ss7guru

So keep revisiting :-)

I shall continue sharing more on SS7 resources in next post. Will be looking forward to your comments !!

SS7 Resources

Objective

Objective of this blog is to share experiences, links & resources for SS7 technology. Telecom is quite a Hidden domain and you can't find everything on Google. At the same time, Google won't always take you to correct location/resource which you are looking for unless you are advanced Google user with great patience.
I will try to share various experiences/resources through this blog which i have found useful in my last 10 years in telecom industry.

SS7 Basics Links/Resources

You can find lots of tutorials on SS7 while searching through Google. Most would take you SS7 Products Companies site who have published SS7 basics documents. They are good resources but don't elaborate much on every aspect of SS7 technology & architecture. These are mainly summarized information.

But nothing can take place of targetted detailed SS7 book. You should invest in a good SS7 Book if you want to learn/understand everything in a single go than Search & Search. Following is a very good SS7 book on Amazon :

Signaling System No. 7 (SS7/C7): Protocol, Architecture, and Services (Networking Technology)

If you are not willing to spend money , then you have great chances to get soft copy of this book on esnips.com or any other SS7 book. Even if you are an experienced user from domain

So you have a start now :-)

GSM SS7 Standards

You would find information on various GSM standards at following locations :

www.etsi.org
Registration is free and you can download standard one at a time.It would be better to download their Catelogue first and the look for your standard(or search term) in this.
Whenever you search for any standard , it will present you multiple version of any standard. Look for Latest version of standard.

www.3gpp.org
Doesn't require any registration. It has latest versions of all publically available standards. These standrads supersede standards which are available at ETSI (though you can search 3gpp standards there also).

Out of two sites above, 3gpp.org is better as it has latest set of standards.

Will continue on this topic in my next post. Please keep pouring in your input/comments...
